The English-language Master’s programme in MSc Medical Sciences - Cardiovascular Research has been designed as a preparatory year for a PhD in the field of cardiovascular research. The curriculum combines a thorough education in general aspects of the structure and function of the cardiovascular system with clinical insights into the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, as well as exposure to ‘wet- and dry-lab’ basic and clinical work. In the first semester, theoretical and clinical contents as well as interdisciplinary competences are taught, while the second semester focuses on the independent preparation of a Master's thesis and thus on the various aspects of scientific work.
Module components cover theoretical and practical aspects, with a strong focus on hands-on training: for example the derivation and evaluation of one's own stress electrocardiogram, single cardiomyocyte contraction and action potential measurements, histological examination of the healthy and diseased heart and observing open-chest surgery.
In addition to knowledge acquisition, the course offers a broad-based introduction to prerequisites, opportunities, and consequences of medical activity and familiarizes students with the ethical dimension of medical practice and research.

Berufsperspektiven
The interdisciplinary programme aims at training the next generation of translational scientists in the field of cardiovascular research. The course equips the students with a thorough understanding of the cardiovascular system and the skills necessary to productively combine advanced research techniques for high-impact interdisciplinary and integrated research and therefore lies the ideal foundation for engagement in demanding, advanced research and/ or pursue a career in the public or private sector.

Bei den auf dieser Seite vom Dezernat 5 - Recht zur Verfügung gestellten Fassungen von Satzungen (insbesondere Zulassungsordnungen und Auswahlsatzungen sowie Studien- und Prüfungsordnungen) handelt es sich überwiegend um sogenannte Lesefassungen. Das heißt, in den Text der ursprünglichen Satzungen wurden jeweils alle nachfolgend vom Senat der Universität beschlossenen Änderungen eingearbeitet; bei den Bachelor- und Masterprüfungsordnungen handelt es sich in der Regel um Ausschnitte der jeweiligen Prüfungsordnung (Rahmenprüfungsordnung, fachspezifische Bestimmungen und Anlagen).
Alle Lesefassungen wurden mit großer Sorgfalt erstellt. Gleichwohl kann nicht vollständig ausgeschlossen werden, dass hierbei unbemerkt Fehler unterlaufen sind. Rechtlich verbindlich sind daher allein die amtlich bekanntgemachten, das heißt in den Amtlichen Bekanntmachungen der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Breisgau bzw. bis zum Jahr 2000 im Amtsblatt des baden-württembergischen Wissenschaftsministeriums veröffentlichten Satzungen und Änderungssatzungen.
