The energy transition in sub-Saharan Africa has nothing in common with that in Germany. At least, that’s what one might assume. But upon closer inspection, it is a leap into the unknown for both regions. We can’t just do the same thing with “green technology”; we need to develop our way of living with the help of new technology. African startups have advantages in this challenge from which we can learn a lot. This is also the approach of Startup|Energy, a joint initiative of the University of Freiburg and the Solar Energy Foundation. Project leader Dr. Harald Schützeichel, who has been supporting local entrepreneurs in Africa for 20 years, reports on the special features of African startups. Additionally, Norah Magero, founder of the Kenyan startup DropAccess, will join online and provide insights into her motivation and goals in a conversation with the participants. Dr. Schützeichel will give his presentation in German with slides in English. The part with Norah Magero will be completely in English.
