NEXUS Group for
Soft Sensorics & Biohybrid Systems
The NEXUS group headed by Dr.-Ing. Simon Binder is part of the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) of the University of Freiburg, the BrainLinks-BrainTools Center, and the Freiburg Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies (FIT). We develop sensing principles and measurement technology based on novel transducers. By combining soft matter, living cells and electronics we create innovative devices for the application in Life Science Engineering: From neuroprosthetics to implantable biomarker detectors. Methods from various disciplines, such as engineering, materials science, biology, and medicine, are merged to form these microsystems. Our group covers the entire spectrum of microsystems development including conceptualization, microfabrication and testing to make biomedical sensing devices more reliable, compliant, and applicable in real-world scenarios.
The NEXUS group is funded through the Carl Zeiss Foundation NEXUS program.
