I decided to study abroad somewhat spontaneously. Originally, I had planned to do an internship or something similar during the semester, but when the exchange application deadline came up, I just went for it. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
My time abroad has definitely broadened my perspective, not just on my field of study but also on the way university can be done. Experiencing a different academic system and environment gave me new insights into how education can be structured and delivered, and it showed me how diverse approaches can complement one another.
Would I recommend this exchange program to others? Absolutely. Studying at UoB was a chance to step out of my comfort zone, experience new ways of learning, and meet people from all over the world. Even the challenges – navigating the chaotic buses, adjusting to the differences in teaching styles, or simply finding my way around – helped me grow and gave me a greater sense of independence.
The most valuable takeaway from my stay abroad is the sense of community I found. UoB fosters a welcoming, inclusive environment where it’s easy to connect with others, even if you arrive on your own. I’ll carry with me not just the academic knowledge I gained, but also the friendships I made, the memories of exploring new cities, and the confidence that comes from thriving in an unfamiliar setting.
