Ultrafast phenomena in small quantum systems
Junior research group of PD Dr. Lukas Bruder
Our mission
We explore fundamental quantum phenomena in small atomic and molecular systems. Our goal is to reduce the complexity of the systems to the core functional units and to keep environmental influences at a controlled level. This allows us to resolve the atomic and molecular processes with high resolution and to explore quantum phenomena otherwise covered in the convoluted response of the material system. For this purpose, we develop multidisciplinary experimental techniques. On the nanoscale, dynamics are extremely fast. Therefore, we apply femtosecond spectroscopy methods to resolve them in real-time. In particular, we develop two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy and time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy in the visible up to the extreme ultraviolet spectral range. For the sample preparation, we follow a bottom-up approach: we study small quantum systems consisting of isolated molecules, molecular complexes and small atomic clusters and expand this to condensed phase systems.
