Financing your studies

Before applying for a place at university, you should carefully consider how you will pay for your studies. In addition to tuition fees for international applicants from non-EU/EEA countries, there are costs for rent, living expenses and learning materials. It’s important to learn about the various options for financing your studies at an early stage. Careful financial planning lays the groundwork for a successful course of study.

How do I apply?

As an international student at the University of Freiburg, you can enrol in full-time studies (degree seekers) or study for just one or two semesters (short-term study).

If you would like to purse a state examination, bachelor’s or master’s degree at the University of Freiburg and have questions about your application, the admission requirements (e.g. the university entrance qualification) or the application process itself, please contact the Application and Admission Team at the Service Center Studium.

How do I enrol?

Semester fees and tuition

In order to enrol in or re-register for a state examination, bachelor’s or master’s programme at the University of Freiburg, you must pay the semester fee and, where applicable, the tuition fee for international students (i.e. those from non-EU/EEA countries who do not hold a German university entrance qualification) each semester.

In the Intercultural Mentoring Programme (ICM), international first-year students (mentees) are paired with experienced students (mentors) according to their fields of study.

The Additional Programme for International Students (APIS) offers opportunities to help you get off to a smooth start to your studies, develop personal competences, and engage in exchanges with other students.
