Interdisciplinary centres and partnerships with non-university research institutions—such as Freiburg’s Max Planck Institutes and Fraunhofer Institutes as well as regional companies—provide another basis for many successful collaborative projects.

Building on this foundation, researchers at the University of Freiburg conduct excellent, internationally visible interdisciplinary collaborative research in the three key research areas Languages of Knowledge, Pathways to Sustainability and Signals of Life.
