Biologie (Biology)

The M.Sc. Biology offers an attractive opportunity to specialise in seven thematic areas (Applied Life Sciences, Biochemistry and Microbiology, Genetics and Developmental Biology, Immunobiology, Neuroscience, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology). The programme provides the necessary skills for planning, carrying out and evaluating laboratory and fieldwork, as well as various activities in the field of research and development. Students Freiburg have the opportunity to explore three areas of specialization of their choice during their first semester before specializing in one of these three starting in the second semester. All areas of specialization offer students an in-depth, research-oriented curriculum with a strong practical component and close ties to current research projects. Small learning groups, excellent support, close contact with instructors and professors, a respectful atmosphere, a wide range of elective options, and the use of modern teaching methods are hallmarks of the program. Students gain access to cutting-edge research at clusters of excellence, large-scale research projects, and research institutions both within and outside the university. The programme prepares students for a subsequent Ph.D. in biology and related disciplines or for entry into the workforce. Thanks to their ability to think in complex and analytical ways, biologists are well suited for a wide range of tasks and fields of work, e.g. in laboratories, universities, companies, education, nature conservation, and communications.
