Staff development plan for the academic field

The reference framework and basis for all our measures and programmes is the staff development plan for the academic field, in which the goals, priorities, fields of action, implementation strategies and quality standards of the University of Freiburg’s academic staff development are anchored.

The staff development plan for the academic field is currently being revised and a new version will be available from spring 2025.

Mentoring culture

The University of Freiburg places a high value on good supervision during the doctoral phase. With the Compass for Good Supervision of Doctoral Candidates, the University is taking responsibility for its researchers and formulating framework conditions for a successful supervisory relationship between doctoral candidates and supervisors. In doing so, it is establishing standards for good supervision and strengthening the supervisory culture at the University. The Compass contains recommendations on how to design a profitable supervisory relationship. It also provides information on the legal framework for doctoral studies.

Leadership culture

The University of Freiburg is committed to the continuous development of its leadership culture, which is based on shared values and open exchange. The leadership guidelines are fundamental to the shared understanding of leadership at the University of Freiburg and are intended to provide orientation for the actions of all of its leaders (in both academia and in the areas of administration, service and technology).
