Beschreibung / Description
With rising global challenges, such as climate change and biodiversity loss, understanding social-ecological systems in forestry becomes increasingly important. This session explores innovative approaches to forest governance and management, examining how social and ecological systems interact to shape sustainable alternatives.
Key topics include:
- Institutional and governance dynamics and their role in facilitating or hindering transitions in forest management
- Coherence of cross-sectoral forest-related policies and their potential effect on forest management
- Social network analysis to map stakeholder relationships and power dynamics
- Impacts of governance innovations on local livelihoods and forest-dependent communities
- Climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies in forestry contexts
- Application of analytical frameworks and modelling tools to understand complex socio-ecological systems
Drawing on empirical research, the session presents a mix of qualitative and quantitative studies that offer insights into successful transitions and ongoing efforts in various forest contexts in Europe and Latin America. By examining real-world examples, we aim to identify key factors that enable sustainable socio-ecological transitions in forestry, contributing to both theoretical understanding and practical implementation of innovative forest management approaches.
