The Academic Career Stages – an Overview

European Framework for Research Careers

Doctoral candidates conducting research with the support of academic supervisors. Doctoral candidates at the University of Freiburg can find target group-specific training opportunities at the Graduate Centre (GraCe). In addition, our mentoring programme AdvanceMent is available to advanced doctoral candidates and (early) postdocs.

Graduate Centre

AdvanceMent

Researchers with a doctorate who are supported in their research and teaching as well as in the acquisition of third-party funding by experienced researchers.

Experienced researchers with a doctorate, including junior research group leaders and junior/tenure-track professors as well as researchers in permanent positions who are independently consolidating their research and teaching experience and developing leadership and management skills.

Professors who are recognised by their peers as leaders in research and teaching.

Are you starting the next phase of your career after completing your doctorate, or have you recently joined the University of Freiburg as a postdoctoral researcher?
Our Postdoc Start Event offers you the ideal opportunity to get started – no matter whether you completed your doctorate here or have just moved to Freiburg!

> Overview of the science system, career paths, support services and contact points for researchers
> Exchange and networking – including a short lunch break with snacks

When? 15 April 2026, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
