Information for your degree programme

Your studies give you the opportunity to deepen knowledge, acquire skills, and develop new perspectives. We offer you practical courses, certificate programmes, and thematic approaches: Individualize your studies with key competencies for the future.
Degree programmes with compulsory ZfS courses
The ‘Profession-Oriented Competencies’ (BOK) course area is a compulsory component of the following degree programmes. As a rule, students in these degree programmes must earn at least 8 ECTS credits in the BOK course area.
For detailed information on the scope and guidelines, please refer to the particular study and examination regulations:
- Bachelor of Arts
- Bachelor of Science
- Polyvalent Dual Major Bachelor’s Degree Programme with Individual Programme Option
In the BOK course area, students must complete coursework that does not count towards their final grade but is absolutely necessary for attaining the required total of 180 ECTS credits. Students are awarded the specified amount of ECTS credits for the successful and timely completion of all coursework as well as regular attendance, which is required for most ZfS courses. The coursework is assessed (‘with success’).
Modules in the BOK course area
The BOK Course Area is divided into the following five competency areas: Management, Communication, Media, IT, and Foreign Languages. The language courses are offered by the Language Teaching Centre at the Faculty of Philology and by the departments or institutes of the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of Humanities.
As a rule, bachelor’s students can decide freely which competency areas they wish to take courses in.
For any deviating regulations and further details on the BOK course area in the bachelor’s degree programmes, please consult the current examination regulations for your degree programme.
Bachelor’s students are only given priority in registering for BOK courses until they have earned the required amount of ECTS credits in the BOK course area. Subsequently, they may register for courses during the open admission phase.
Click here for detailed information on the certificate for interdisciplinary key qualifications (SQ).
Before you register, please check to make sure you can make it to all classroom-based sessions and complete all required coursework (exam, portfolio, presentation, etc.) for the selected course.
If a course you have registered for turns out to overlap with your course timetable and your required vocational internships and you cannot fulfil the conditions for participation, please contact us directly. We will deregister you from the course without blocking you from registering for further courses. However, you cannot earn the ECTS credits for the course in this case.
We are happy to answer your questions about the planning and implementation of ZfS courses.
If you are enrolled in this degree programme with the secondary school teaching degree option, you must complete the modules specified in appendix C of the degree and examination regulations.
More information on this is available on the FACE website.
Information on guidance during the orientation internship is also available on our home page.
If you are completing the polyvalent dual major bachelor’s degree programme with the individual programme option, you are required to earn at least 8 ECTS credits in the profession-oriented competencies course area, as specified in appendix C.
