The Faculty of Biology is one of the strongest research faculties at the University of Freiburg. The Faculty promotes biological research and academic teaching in its breadth and at the highest international level
The working and teaching conditions at the faculty should enable researchers, lecturers, students and academic support staff to develop their professional and personal potential. The faculty aims to provide an open forum for science, dialogue and interaction.
In order to ensure the very high quality of research and teaching in the long term, the faculty follows the following four points as its mission statement:

- Strong networking within and outside the university
- Intensive support for early career researchers
- Research-oriented and professionally focused teaching
