Adolf Haeuser-Foundation
The Foundation mainly supports scientific research in the form of scholarships, grants towards printing costs and to finance important trips or similar purposes. In general, three quarters of the foundation’s net income is to be used for scientific purposes and one quarter for sporting purposes. A board of trustees decides on how the funds are allocated.
In accordance with a decision by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, no printing cost subsidies will be granted for dissertations.

Deutschlandstipendium of the University of Freiburg
With the Deutschlandstipendium, the university supports students who are expected to demonstrate outstanding academic and professional achievements with EUR 300 per month. The selection criteria for the Deutschlandstipendium can be divided into two parts:
- School or Academic Achievements
- Further selection criteria include social commitment and personal achievements, such as a student overcoming challenges or obstacles in his/her social or family background, and previous professional training or work experience
Students who are already enrolled at the University of Freiburg, as well as those who are starting first year or changing their course of study and will start studying at the University of Freiburg in the summer semester but are not yet enrolled can apply. Prospective students who are waiting to be admitted by the Foundation for University Admissions can also apply for the Deutschlandstipendium with their Abitur certificate.
Applications can usually be submitted in the spring of each year.
Dr. Heinrich Kircher-Foundation
Half of the net income of the foundation is used for scholarships and grants to support worthy students of the Faculty of Medicine and for the support and further training of qualified doctors. The other half is available for research purposes and is to be used to finance habilitation (post-doctoral qualification) theses, dissertations and other research work.

The foundation promotes science and research in the field of Alzheimer’s disease.
A short project description (2-3 pages) and the applicant’s CV and list of publications are required for applications for funding in kind up to a maximum of EUR 5500 each. There are no further formal requirements (e.g. application form). The annual net income is used to support and promote younger members of the Faculty of Medicine who are expected to perform above average in terms of knowledge and character. The foundation promotes science and research in the field of vascular and blood clotting disorders.

Gödecke AG-Foundation // Area: Cardiology
The foundation supports guest lectures in the Faculty of Medicine with a focus on cardiology.
To apply, you will need to submit a letter of approximately one page explaining why the guest lecture is worthy of funding. Please also enclose a flyer or an invitation to the guest lecture. The application must be submitted in electronic form (1 PDF file by e-mail). Submission in paper form is not necessary.

The foundation’s income is used to fund scientists in the early stages of their careers at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Biology for stays of several months or longer at foreign universities or foreign scientific institutions for the purpose of study, further education or scientific work. The total amount per application may not exceed EUR 3 750.

Hoffmann-La Roche-Foundation
The Foundation promotes the exchange of scientific experience in the field of medical research at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg. In particular, it supports:
- Further training for scientists from the Faculty of Medicine at external clinics and institutes in Germany and abroad (e.g. to learn new methods)
- Invitations to external researchers for laboratory visits, lectures and similar events in Freiburg
- Conference visits by Freiburg researchers, if their own contributions in the form of posters or presentations are available (travel, accommodation, conference fee if applicable)

The purpose of the foundation is to promote science and research, education and training in the field of holistic medicine.

Maria Ladenburger-Foundation // Area: Clinical Traineeships in Developing Countries (on request)
The Faculty of Medicine allocates funds to support clinical traineeships in developing countries. The funds provided are intended to benefit students who would like to complete a clinical traineeship in a developing country but need financial support to do so. Persons who already receive financial support from another source are excluded from the funding. The Foundation Officer of the Faculty of Medicine decides on the allocation of funds. Mattern-Foundation // Area: Cancer Diseases
The foundation promotes science, research and education at the University of Freiburg in the field of cancer. This is done in particular by funding research projects, travel grants, grants for the publication of scientific works or the granting of scholarships for students and doctoral candidates.
A short project description (2-3 pages) and the applicant’s CV and list of publications are required for applications for funding in kind (research projects) up to a maximum of EUR 2 500. Müller-Fahnenberg-Foundation // Area: Cancer Diseases
The purpose of the foundation is, among other things, to promote research in the field of cancer and other unexplored diseases. The foundation’s purpose is ensured in particular by awarding study and research grants and scholarships.
The heads of research groups at the theoretical institutes and clinics are eligible to apply. The earmarked grants from the foundation’s assets are only granted to the responsible university institution and not directly to the staff member entrusted with a specific research project. The applications must therefore also be signed by the director of the respective university institution.
Notes on the application:
- The application volume can be up to EUR 15 000 per application.
- The following documents must be submitted as application documents: short justification / project description (5-10 pages), curriculum vitae of the applicant, publication list of the applicant for the last 5 years with indication of the impact factors (only original works; please do not list or clearly indicate works that have only been submitted and have not yet been published),
- In the case of applications for the procurement of equipment, the assumption of follow-up costs must be clarified and secured in advance.
- Only those procurements will be financed from foundation funds that have been expressly listed and approved in the application; i.e. the applications must be complete. Any existing rebates, discounts and VAT must be listed in a cost breakdown in the application.
- Note: It is not sufficient to attach any existing offers to the application. Please also note that costs such as delivery and packaging may not be included in the final amount. If these costs are not to be borne by the department, they must be included in the list.

Prof. Dr. Dr. Sabine Freifrau von Kleist – Foundation
The purpose of the foundation is to support scientists in the early stages of their careers at the Faculty of Medicine; in particular, scientific travel by qualified students (doctoral candidates) and scientists is to be supported. The realization of the foundation’s purpose can be ensured in particular by awarding scholarships and research grants as well as travel allowances for the presentation of own results at congresses. Scholarships can be awarded on a one-off or monthly basis.

Just Foundation for the Promotion of Young Clinical Researchers (on request)
The foundation supports medical scientists in the early stages of their careers in two ways:
- The W. Proctor Harvey Prize, endowed with EUR 2 500, is awarded annually and presented by the Rector of the University of Freiburg during the ceremonial opening of the academic year. The four Medical Directors of the University Heart Center Bad Krozingen are eligible to nominate candidates.
- The Ludwig Heilmeyer Scholarship, endowed with a maximum of EUR 10 000, is awarded to talented scientists at an early career stage for particularly important research projects, including doctoral or postdoctoral theses. The scholarship can also be awarded as a return grant for academics returning home from abroad. The scholarship is awarded at the annual meeting of the University Heart Center Bad Krozingen:

Wilhelm Seiter-Foundation // Area: cancer, lung disease, glaucoma
In accordance with the foundation’s statutes, the proceeds are used to combat cancer, lung disease and glaucoma.

Scientific Society
The Scientific Society supports “scientific workers” at the University of Freiburg with, among others, material and travel grants as well as printing subsidies.
The prerequisite for a grant is that the application is submitted on time and approved by the Board of Directors or Board of Trustees. Approval of an application is based only on its quality.
Applications of up to EUR 1 500 are reviewed monthly (except August) and should be submitted by the beginning of the month. Decisions on applications of a higher amount (up to EUR 5 000) are made twice a year at the meetings of the Board of Trustees.
