Research Infrastructures
Research infrastructure facilities at the Faculty of Medicine are categorized into three groups: Central, Core and Shared Facilities.
Research infrastructure facilities provide all faculty employees with access to key technologies that may not be readily available to all users due to their high complexity and/or acquisition costs. At the same time, this eases the access to major research instrumentation for all interested researchers. In this way, research infrastructure facilities help to pool resources and make research more efficient.
Scientific and technical staff within the facilities handle inquiries and provide scientific services. For specific questions, please refer to the individual facility websites for a list of the relevant staff members.
Research Infrastructure Plan
The Faculty of Medicine’s research infrastructures are essential for the sustaining and advancing of the faculty’s and university’s research focus areas in the face of national and international competition. The aim is to offer state-of-the-art technical equipment and scientific expertise, as well as to enable the efficient use and maximum utilization of major research instrumentation, in order to make key technologies accessible to all researchers within the faculty. The Faculty of Medicine has implemented a research infrastructure plan that includes an overarching governance structure and a funding program for research infrastructures.

Research Infrastructure Funding Program of the Faculty of Medicine

To promote and further develop the research infrastructure facilities, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Freiburg offers a competitive funding program for research infrastructures with the following funding lines:
- Acknowledgement as a Shared Facility of the Faculty of Medicine
- Acknowledgement as a Core Facility of the Faculty of Medicine
- Start-up funding innovation for acknowledged research infrastructure facilities of the Faculty of Medicine
- Contribution to basic financing for Core facilities
