Maiara Gonçalves-Wintermantel is Lecturer and Course Coordinator together with Dr. Hanna Helander for Environmental and Sustainability Sciences. She holds a MSc in Entomology from the Amazonian Research Institute (INPA) and a MSc in Environmental Sciences from the University of Freiburg.
During several years working at the NGO Foundation for Amazon Sustainability (FAS), she managed sustainable development projects in riverine communities, focusing on bioeconomy and environmental education. With this intersdisciplinary set of knowledges, her main interests are insect ecology, citizen science, and sustainable solutions for nature conservation.

In the LAS Major Environmental and Sustainability Sciences, I have taught the courses “Research and presentation” and “Introduction to Environmental Sciences and Sustainability”, with background topics focused on climate change and biodiversity, food transformation and water sustainability.
I’m currently researching the community composition and trophic interactions of cavity nesting bees and wasps, from the citizen-science project “Schulinsektenhaus” at the Chair of Nature Conservation and Landscape Ecology (University of Freiburg).
