Mila Mikalay (Liudmila Mikalayeva) studied Political Science in a Franco-Belarusian program at the European Humanities University (Minsk) and at the Paris Institute of Political Science (SciencesPo). She then joined a research group led by Prof. Frank Schimmelfennig at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) and conducted research on the European Union’s Eastern enlargement. In 2011, she defended her doctoral thesis on international treaty monitoring and was invited by the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences to coordinate its research field Global Integration. Mila joined UCF in February 2014.
Dr. Mikalay is responsible for the Major Governance. She teaches courses for the Major Governance and is keen on stressing the link between teaching and research. Mila uses insights from her research for her course design and researches the effects of active learning techniques based on her teaching experience.
