English and American Studies

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) – 2 field degree program - Major Field

The Bachelor of Arts programme in English and American Studies focuses on linguistics, as well as literary and cultural studies of the English-speaking world. The programme combines the acquisition of English language skills on a high level with the intercultural and interdisciplinary study of language, cultural phenomena, literatures, and media. This opens up various perspectives on historical, political, and cultural developments in English-speaking countries from their beginnings to the present day. Students of the programme learn to think critically, to develop their own viewpoints and to represent these convincingly. This is combined with insights into various English-speaking cultures. The subject-specific and practical language skills can prepare students for a master's degree in linguistics, literary studies, or cultural studies, and can be applied in many different professional areas, such as translation, media, communication and tourism.
