Archäologische Wissenschaften (Archaeological Sciences)

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) – 2 field degree program - Minor Field

The B.A. in Archaeological Sciences (minor) provides a foundation for studying past cultures, from early humans to the Middle Ages, through material remains such as tools, graves, buildings, and artworks across diverse historical periods. The programme provides a broad overview of three archaeological sub-disciplines, linking them with interdisciplinary perspectives. Students explore past cultures across the Mediterranean and Near East, researching Viking trading sites, medieval graves, and Roman military posts at Freiburg’s Institute of Archaeological Sciences. Students develop skills in formulating research questions, analysing archaeological sources, and presenting findings academically. Graduates are prepared for careers in museums, heritage management, excavation, cultural institutions, science communication, or further study in archaeology at master’s level.
