Research

Research is particularly innovative and successful when conducted on an interdisciplinary basis. Scientists at the Faculty of Medicine – University of Freiburg combine their findings from basic research with those from clinical research in a collaborative manner. They develop new therapies and apply these to patient care at the Medical Center – University of Freiburg.

The Faculty of Medicine supports scientists at an early career stage with structured excellence programs, research training groups and a wide range of training measures.

Collaborative Research Center on Novel Cancer Therapies Extended

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved continued funding for the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) „Onkogen-driven immune escape – OncoEscape“ at the Faculty of Medicine for another funding period. The CRC, led by spokesperson Prof. Robert Zeiser, investigates the fundamental mechanisms of new immunotherapies against cancer.

Reinhart Koselleck Project Grant for Professor Bartos

Professor Bartos has been awarded a Reinhart Koselleck Project Grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) to study “The role of the inputs and outputs of the dentate gyrus in the formation of memory traces and the control of behavior”. She will receive 1,25 million euros over five years for her project.

Prof. Kraft – Professor at the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology – and two other scientists from Austria and the USA have been awarded a prestigious ERC Synergy Grant for their project “DegrAbility: On the Degradability of Protein Aggregates by Autophagy”. Over six years, she and her international partners will receive a total of 10 million euros for their project.

Research Funding

We aim to further advance research at Freiburg’s University Medicine in international competition. To this end, the Office of the Dean for Research supports scientists in submitting applications for internal, national, European and international research programs.
