Student Sustainability Office

The Student Sustainability Office is the central contact point for all students and other interested persons who want to help shape a sustainable future at the University of Freiburg. In particular, it functions as the interface between the student body and university committees concerned with sustainability issues. The Student Sustainability Office was established at the university in June 2023 on the initiative of students, is part of the Office of the Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Sustainability, and is led by the University Sustainability Manager.

The Student Sustainability Office performs the following functions:

  • It provides information about ongoing or planned processes of sustainable transformation at the university.
  • It supports exchange and networking among involved groups and individuals and advises on the implementation of projects.
  • It collects ideas and requests for future sustainability measures at the university and can bring them to the attention of university committees concerned with sustainability issues (e.g., the Sustainability Council, the Sustainable University Work Group, and the advisory board of the Sustainability Certificate programme; see here for more information).
  • It participates in the organization of events, such as the University Sustainability Days and the Erstsemester-Akademie BaWü zukunftsfähig Freiburg.
